Bergsma, who spent much of his childhood in Pakistan, recounts memories of transexuals/hijras in Pakistan and suggests that the recent electoral rejection of Islamists in the North West Frontier Province may herald a return to social acceptance of the once famous cross-dressing dancers of the region.
