 According to the Sydney Star Observer ( 30 January 1997) The Immigration Review Tribunal upheld an Australian man's appeal to allow his Egyptian partner to be considered for residency in Australia. Earlier the Australian Embassy in Cairo had informed Christopher Lane that his relationship did not meet the correct legal criteria as they hadn't spent sufficient time together. Lane explained to the Tribunal that Egyptian law meant it was dangerous for the pair to associate too often during his visits to Egypt. The decision however did not mean that the application would be automatically approved.
