CAIRO UNIVERSITY
The plaza in front of the domed main building of Cairo University is always full with university students on weekday afternoons. But be careful of fundamentalist demonstrations which often start here. But this and the other usual caveats aside, several of the students were very willing when I staked out the location.
ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS
An even better proposition are the vast Zoological Gardens, not far away, which were laid out over a hundred years ago for Khedive Ismail's palace. Nowadays the large shady trees and peaceful waterways are a welcome refuge from Giza's sprawling urban jungle and on Fridays and public holidays the gardens are crowded with thousands of visitors. While you might wish to see the extensive collection of animals in the zoo, the conditions they are kept are depressing. Better to concentrate on people watching !
The cost of entry to the gardens is a mere ten piastres and they are open daily from 8.30 to 4.30 with last entry at 3.30.
SADDLE UP DISCOTHEQUE
Word on the street [April 2002] has it that you don't need to be in a couple to gain entrance to this night club which lies within the Mena House Hotel complex but no certainty yet as to whether this will mean it will pull many gay punters, especially with a horrendous entrance fee of LE60, not to mention having to fork out 30LE for some drinks and 10LE just for soft drinks. We wouldn't rush out there but if you get turned away elsewhere and you have money to burn......

THE PYRAMIDS
If you want a wider choice of handsome guys than even Cleopatra could have enjoyed and prefer to pick your own guy rather than use the internet or telephone why not visit the pyramids. Don't venture into the police supervised area. Remain on the periphery and you should soon by approached by many handsome guys offering you horse or camel rides across the desert. Make sure you the guy you chose will actually be going with you and is not just merely going to take commission from some ugly guy who will then become your unwelcome companion.
Make sure someone you trust know who you are going with and where he works and has seen your companion's identity card to minimize the small but real risk of any danger. Be sure the guy is known to others working in the area.
Once you've decided on your companion you can take note of the advice for women in Lonely Planet - "Do not allow the camel or horse owner to climb on the animal behind you." You might wish to do the opposite and insist your companion rides with you as you are a hopeless novice.
Useful phrases: I'm an excellent rider................ana faaris mumtaaz. xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm a complete beginner............ana mubtadie
Once into the desert tell your new friend how you are really hot for sex because you haven't had it for a long time or if you are a foreign tourist tell him how in Europe it is quite normal for one man to sexually submit himself to another and is the same true in Egypt ?
Agree a price. Around 70 to 150 Egyptian pounds would be reasonable. Chose a location where there are sand dunes and use the saddle of the horse if it helps. Don't stop too close to the Pyramids in case you are rudely interrupted by the police. Beware if there is a second "guide" with you they may also wish to get involved and may resent it if you refuse.
FINALLY - HERE'S A WELL-KNOWN LIMERICK ON THE ORIGINS OF THE SPHINX'S SMILE.
The sexual life of the camel
Is stranger than anyone thinks.
At the height of the mating season
He tries to bugger the sphinx.
But the sphinx's posterior sphincter
Is all clogged by the sands of the Nile,
Which accounts for the hump on the camel
And the sphinx's inscrutable smile.
WARNING: Do you fully understand the risks you are taking when cruising in Cairo ? We know some people are brave enough not to be intimidated by the Egyptian police. But you are strongly advised to read our brief account of the recent wave of arrests in Egypt - click here.

LETTER OF THE YEAR - 2005
FROM AN EMAIL TO GAYEGYPT.COM - 21 08 05

"Every time I tell someone I am from Egypt, I hear the same spiel about how they always wanted to visit the Pyramids and the Sphinx. May be on their way to the Pyramids tourists should stop at some of the jails or even the forensic examiner’s office and take pictures of innocent men being anally probed to determine if they were “used.” May be they should crank a dynamo with wires connected to a man’s testicles while he screams and faints from pain. Or may be while tourists are learning some Arabic words to negotiate with the locals they should learn how to say khawal (faggot) or shaz (pervert) to yell at innocent men being charged with "debauchery and defaming religion" just because they love other men."

MARRAKESH.NET WORLDWIDE GAY FORUMS
ATTRACT OVER 10 MILLION HITS !
We created Marrakesh.net after our work on the website GayEgypt.com showed there was a lack of cheap, easy to use, networking sites for the gay community in Africa and Asia, especially in the predominantly muslim nations, where gays suffer from isolation, discrimination and persecution. GayEgypt.com started in 2000 as a website for Egypt's gay community but we soon discovered that gays and lesbians across Africa and Asia were offered second rate and often costly networking forums by American and other international dating companies. We wanted to ensure that gays and lesbians in Asia and Africa
1. could have separate boards for all major cities 2. that no one should not have to pay 3. since for many English is a second language, they shouldn't have to complete a complex registration process 4. should be able to read and post messages in their own language and 5. had faster access so we gave many forums such as Bangladesh and Nigeria their own gay + country name.com addresses.
MARRAKESH.NET PIONEERED GAY FORUMS ACROSS AFRICA AND ASIA.
WE HOST THOUSANDS WORLDWIDE WITH OVER SIX MILLION HITS FOR OUR MIDDLE EAST BOARDS ALONE.
WE ARE THE FIRST WEBSITE TO PIONEER SAFE SEX MESSAGES IN BROWSER WINDOWS.*
*So far for eight countries only ( including Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan and Tunsia ) and only activated by some link buttons.

AND ALL FORUMS ARE TOTALLY FREE
