PORTRAITS OF<br> ARAB TRANSVESTITES

Visitors to the Arab World sometimes don't realise that transvestites are very popular among many Arabs. Below there are a selection of photos capturing TVs entertaining crowds on "The Arab Street."

The depiction of any individual implies nothing about their sexuality and the "transvestites" shown are strictly professional female impersonators. Arabs rarely dress up like this all the time. For instance, even though, like many other Arab men, I sometimes wear female attire (usually on the first Thursday evening of every month when I borrow my brother's abaya which discreetly cloaks the tight pink lingerie I wear underneath), the rest of the time I smoke shisha and play football with my mates.
